About Noyan Wildlife Management Area

The Noyan Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in northeastern Montana, managed by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Covering a mix of wetland, grassland, and riparian habitats along the Milk River, the area provides essential habitat for migratory birds, waterfowl, upland game birds, and various mammals. The terrain is characterized by river bottomlands with marshes, sloughs, and native prairie, making it an important wintering and nesting ground for wildlife. Historically, the region served as a critical waterfowl migration corridor and supports species such as pheasant, sharp-tailed grouse, white-tailed deer, and numerous waterfowl species including mallards and Canada geese. The management area was established to protect these natural resources and provide public access for wildlife conservation and recreational opportunities. Visitors commonly engage in upland bird hunting during the fall, waterfowl hunting, birdwatching, nature photography, and hiking along informal trails. Noyan WMA is known for its quiet landscapes and excellent wildlife viewing, especially during spring and fall migrations. Although the site lacks developed campgrounds and visitor facilities, it attracts dedicated outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate its natural state and abundant fauna. Proximity to the nearby communities of Glasgow and Malta provides access points and amenities for visitors. The management area’s priority is wildlife habitat integrity and sustainable public use, making it a valued conservation and outdoor destination in Montana's prairie region.
